The Salvation Army is concerned with the needs of all—regardless of race, color, creed, sex, gender or age. We offer a variety of services and programs designed to assist the communities we serve such as emergency disaster relief, emergency assistance, emergency shelter, housing, outreach programs, visitation programs, child care services, youth programs, a specialized program to combat human trafficking, adult rehabilitation, holiday assistance, and more.
We are the Eastern Pennsylvania & Delaware (Pendel) Division, which serves communities throughout Allentown, Berwick, Boyertown, Carlisle, Chambersburg, Chester, Coatesville, Dover, Leigh Valley Area, Greater Philadelphia Region, Harrisburg, Hazleton, Lancaster, Lebanon, Levittown, Lewistown, Lock Haven, Milton, Norristown, Pottsville, Reading, Scranton, York, and the Delaware Region. We are one of eleven divisions in the Eastern Territory. Divisions consist of Corps Community Centers that provide direct service to members of the community in need and also serves as a place of worship and service. Our doors are open to all.
Lt. Colonels Larry and Janet Ashcraft have been Salvation Army officers for 40 years. Both are children of Salvation Army officers. They both hold degrees from Nyack College. Janet holds a Masters degree in Counseling from the Alliance Graduate School of Counseling. The Ashcrafts have held various corps and headquarters appointments. Most recently, the Ashcrafts spent the past five years as the divisional leaders for the Southwest Ohio/Northeast Kentucky Division with headquarters in Cincinnati. Larry is a part-time runner and avid sports fan who lives and dies with the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Reds. He jokes that when he is cut, he bleeds scarlet and gray, the colors of his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. Janet is a voracious reader. She loves walking, amusement parks, crafting and the ocean, especially in Maine. The Ashcrafts have two sons. Joel and his wife, Kathleen, are Salvation Army officers in Cleveland, Ohio. Christopher is with the United States State Department and currently is posted in Washington, DC. Their three grandchildren, Matthew, Evelyn and Audrey are the joys of their lives. When they are with them, they enjoy Nerf gun battles, playing with unicorns and reading books. The Ashcrafts' deepest desire is to see emerging generations engaged in the mission of The Salvation Army which is to save souls, produce saints and serve suffering humankind without discrimination.
