Hometown Heroes

Jun 8, 2022

Earlier this year, The Salvation Army Indiana Division distributed brochures to inform donors and prospects of Hometown Endowment Funds, a perpetual gift that can be designated for a specific Salvation Army location or program. The brochure’s title, “Be a Hometown Hero” caught the eyes of anonymous long-time donors of The Salvation Army and citizens of Columbus, IN. Upon reading the brochure and discovering Bartholomew County Salvation Army programs did not have a Hometown Endowment Fund, the couple decided to make their contribution.

The donors contacted their financial planner, to make sure they felt financially secure moving forward, and then contributed their first IRA-qualified charitable distribution gift to create the new Bartholomew County Hometown Endowment. They are thrilled to have had this opportunity to leave a long-lasting legacy in their community and plan to continue to grow the fund by giving their gift annually. They encourage others to do the same:

“The Salvation Army has a history of ministering to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of persons in Bartholomew County. We were looking for a way to not only support these services this year but also carry that work into the future. We are confident that our gift to create a Hometown Endowment Fund will be used wisely to assist individuals and families for many years to come.”

Captain Amy Tompkins, The Salvation Army officer in Bartholomew County is excited about the improvements that can be made with the new Hometown Endowment Fund.

“This hometown endowment fund will provide major upgrades to our existing services,” she explains. “Currently, The Salvation Army in Columbus is assisting more clients than ever before, so there has never been a greater need for these contributions.”

A Hometown Endowment Fund for your local Salvation Army service provides stability and security to continue life-changing services to neighbors in need. These gifts retain value and earn interest, which is distributed annually. Anyone can contribute to this growing fund, doing the most good in Bartholomew County.
