Chaplain Highlight: Captain Elis Pomales Morales and Lieutenant Ada Diaz Fajardo

Jun 29, 2023

The Logansport community bid farewell to The Salvation Army Logansport corps officers, Captain Elis Pomales Morales and Lieutenant Ada Diaz Fajardo, who have served in the area for the past two years. Together, Capt. Elis and Lt. Ada share a deep love for serving neighbors in local communities. Recently, God has called Capt. Elis and Lt. Ada to serve as corps officers at The Salvation Army Harbor Light Center Chicago. Their steadfast dedication and commitment to The Salvation Army’s mission will make them a valuable addition to the Northern and Central Illinois Division.

Before becoming Salvation Army officers, Capt. Elis and Lt. Ada came to know The Salvation Army while living in Puerto Rico. After the island was struck by hurricanes, they saw The Salvation Army’s emergency disaster response, helping local families in need. Together, they began attending a local corps for Sunday services. In 1998, Capt. Elis wanted to attend the University of Iowa to obtain his Master’s degree. So, their family moved to Iowa and began attending the local corps there. After living there for six years, Capt. Elis and Lt. Ada felt called to attend College for Officer Training (CFOT). And as they say, the rest is history.

While in Logansport, the couple was able to connect with volunteers from many local churches in Cass County. Together, the group would meet for large bible studies in Capt. Elis and Lt. Ada’s home. “That was amazing for us,” added Capt. Elis. “Sharing God’s work with this special group is what we’ll take from Logansport.”

Looking forward, the couple is ready to embark on a new adventure together. They are excited to share a new ministry together, meeting the needs of individuals who have substance use disorders, hearing their stories, and learning new things. The thought of serving a new population and meeting their needs in different ways is exciting to them.

Please join us in wishing Capt. Elis and Lt. Ada the best in their new appointment and praying for their successes as they move forward.
