Miami County Red Kettles Get Boost from Angel Donor
The Salvation Army's annual Christmas fundraising campaign has entered its final week and is getting a helping hand from an anonymous donor in Peru, Indiana. For the final three days of bell ringing, December 22, 23, and 24, the donor will double donations made to Miami County Red Kettles up to $5,000.
"We support The Salvation Army because they show the love of God by helping meet the needs of individuals through the food pantry, emergency services, and disaster services," shared the anonymous donor in a message to The Salvation Army. "The volunteers at The Salvation Army treat the persons they assist with dignity and care without discrimination."
While this "Angel Donor" may not claim the spotlight, the impact of this match will be easy for all to see in the coming months. If last-minute holiday shoppers increase their giving just a little, the goal of raising $5,000 in only three days is attainable. Once doubled, the grand total of $10,000 would help to fund months of services to the Miami County community in 2022. From keeping the food pantry stocked to providing funds for emergency financial assistance, these donations are used throughout the year to help local residents make it through times when they are struggling to keep a roof over their heads or feed their families.
The Salvation Army has worked throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to meet the needs of Miami County residents facing uncertainty and unemployment. With Christmas just around the corner, volunteers with The Salvation Army's Service Extension Unit in Peru are busy ensuring that families have a joyful holiday filled with hope and love, not fear and disappointment. Donations made to Red Kettles in November and December keep the hope alive for these families long after Christmas has passed.
"We appreciate all the support we receive from the community," said Angela Quinn, ministry specialist with The Salvation Army of Miami County. "I want to thank the community for all their donations - monetary, food, time spent volunteering and ringing the bell. To help others it takes all of us working together."
Shoppers looking for a Red Kettle during the final days of the Christmas campaign will find bell ringers at Kroger, Save-a-Lot, and Family Farm & Home. Red Kettles can't be out without volunteers, but there are still time slots available for local residents to give back through two hours of bell ringing.
