Vigo County Christmas Assistance 2024

Oct 1, 2024

With Christmas just 85 days away, The Salvation Army of Vigo County wants to ensure that the holiday is joyful for local families in need. This week, The Salvation Army opened registration for its annual Christmas Assistance Program.

Signups run through December 13 at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center, located at 234 South 8th Street in Terre Haute. Applicants can come Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and should bring proof of Vigo County residence. This can include social security cards for every member of the household, birth certificates for anyone under 18, and photo IDs for anyone age 18 or older.

The Salvation Army will work with each household to get them signed up for programs like Shop With a Cop, Adopt-a-Family, or Toys for Tots. Historically, around 1,700 families have been served by these programs each holiday season.

"We are expecting enrollment to be up significantly this year, so we are doing everything we can to make sure this Christmas is joyful," said Captain Jeremy Fingar, corps officer for The Salvation Army of Vigo County. "

The public is invited to support these community programs. For more information, reach out to The Salvation Army at (812) 232-4081.
