The New Citadel Dedication

Dedicated to the Glory of God and the Service of Mankind

The weekend of March 28th and 29th was a grand celebration as the new Montclair Citadel was officially opened by Territorial Commander, Commissioner Lawrence R. Moretz. Hundreds of Salvation Army members, friends, and neighbors gathered to witness the official ribbon cutting on the front steps of the new facility.  The ribbon-cutting was preceded by speeches from the architect, Jack Higgins and Mayor of Montclair, Jerry Fried.   The keys to the building were then presented to New Jersey Divisional Commander, Major Donald Berry by building contracting company owner, Joseph Frankoski.

The crowd was then invited in to tour the new facility which includes a contemporary chapel/auditorium, classrooms, multipurpose sports hall, craft room, dance and drama practice room, a drop-in center for homelessness prevention services, and an expanded social service/program office area.

Lunch was served by 12 area restaurants providing items from their menus in an event called Tastes of Montclair.  The afternoon provided the opportunity for guests to enjoy piano recitals in the chapel and other activities around the building, including a display of Salvation Army history.

The day was concluded with a Musical Festival of Thanksgiving in the chapel with music provided by Montclair Citadel's own brass band and choir.

The chapel was full on Sunday morning as Commissioners Moretz led a service of dedication.   A pot-luck meal for the over 200 guests followed to close the weekend's celebration.
