together we can Light The Day for a brighter future.

A $6 million campaign to expand, construct, and endow a full city block of service providing life-changing programs for the entire family.

Unrestricted campaign gifts will be prioritized for construction and then used to strengthen the operating endowment. If the community’s generosity exceeds the campaign goal, unrestricted campaign gifts will be allocated evenly to a capital reserve account for current and future capital needs and strengthening the operating endowment.

reflecting light
from the past

Over the past 136 years, The Salvation Army has built a wide variety of programs and services to meet the essential needs of our Mount Vernon and Knox County neighbors. A supportive faith community, a trusted social services provider, and a dependable resource; The Salvation Army faithfully and creatively responds to changing community needs so we all have an opportunity to thrive.

“The Army’s affordable, high quality afterschool and summer programming has provided robust, energizing and nurturing activities that have encouraged children from kindergarten to the eighth grade to reach their potential for 50 years.”

-Austin Swallow,
Light
The Day Campaign Chair

radiating light
on today's needs

Through intentional collaboration with community partners in a 2017 Program Study and in 2021 community conversations, The Salvation Army identified unmet and under-met needs in Knox County. The research spotlighted a significant need for social services and daytime childcare – a point confirmed in the Knox County Childcare Needs Assessment. These brightly lit needs formed the basis for the path forward.

“ The Salvation Army takes a holistic response to serving our neighbors. We want to make sure every person we encounter has the resources needed to grow stronger physically, mentally, and Spiritually.”

-Captain Christine Moretz,
The Salvation Army Mount Vernon Corps Officer
