The Salvation Army IS Power for Life

Feb 19, 2020

Whitney was joined by her daughter 9 month-old Helena for this interview.

What was your first encounter with The Salvation Army? “My Mom signed me up for the Power For Life program to make new friends, get homework help, and to improve my social skills.

What was your first thought about The Salvation Army?
“Everyone was nice and friendly, always very helpful.”

Thoughts about The Salvation Army you wish everyone knew?
“Lots of people think that The Salvation Army Shelter is, “bad.” I do not agree, after I was in the Power For Life Program, I had to stay in the shelter for a little while when I was still in school. I found out that as long as you follow the rules, do what you are supposed to do, like chores, looking for work, and looking for housing, I think it is a really good program.

What are your strongest beliefs about The Salvation Army?
“The Army helps with homelessness, feeding people in the Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry, and you can even call so they can help with referrals.

Tell me about people you have met at The Salvation Army
“I am very close with many people at the Army, and consider lots of them to be family.”

What makes The Salvation Army different?
“The Army does not judge the people they help.”

What would you say to someone thinking about becoming a donor to The Salvation Army?
“The Army would really appreciate the help, and have families that come in with almost nothing. Whether it is money, or food, or time, they could use your help.”
