Every day The Salvation Army helps cure hunger by providing nutritious meals to neighbors in need.
In 2018, 37.2 million people lived in food-insecure households, 9.5 million adults lived in households with very low food security, and 6 million children lived in food-insecure households in which children, along with adults, were food insecure. (EPA)
Emergency Food Pantries, Soup Kitchens, and other feeding initiatives are offered through our Corps Community Centers to help those facing food insecurity for themselves and their families.
The Salvation Army provides programs to address hunger throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Intake and assessment for food-related programs will also provide referrals to other social services within The Salvation Army and throughout the community.
The Salvation Army offers food pantries to provide groceries for families and individuals in need. Food is free, but some locations require appointments, while others are on a walk-in first come first serve basis, some locations offer a bread and produce distribution programs. Mobile feeding units are available in some communities providing meals to homeless or youth during summer vacation. By supplying free fresh produce, canned goods, and healthy frozen items, our food pantries provide valuable meal supplementation while helping those in need maintain their independence and dignity.
From sit down meals in our soup kitchen, to residential meals in our shelters and senior and youth centers, The Salvation Army is filling empty stomachs and empty hearts. A meal is more than just food, it's community for a senior that would otherwise be shut-in or a sense of normalcy for a family that lost their home.
