The Salvation Army Welcomes James & Pamela Downs to Northern New England
The Salvation Army is pleased to welcome James and Pamela Downs to the Northern New England Division.
James Downs has been hired as the Service Unit Representative.
He is responsible for effective operation of assigned service units, ensuring adequate volunteer staffing; compliance with Salvation Army operational and fiscal procedures; and communication of relevant program information. In addition, will assist with all operations at The Salvation Army Service Center in Rutland, Vermont.
A service unit is an extension of The Salvation Army that functions in communities where there is no Salvation Army center. A unit is staffed by volunteers from the community who represent the Army to provide basic assistance to those in need.
Jim expressed, “I look forward to meeting our many volunteers, assisting them and hearing all about the amazing work that they do to help others in need.”
Jim has more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, many of them employed with The Salvation Army.
He brings both strong social service experience and excellent communication skills to the job.
Jim previously worked as the shelter manager for the Cross Roads House in Portsmouth, NH.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in religious studies from Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA
Pamela Downs has been hired as the new director for The Salvation Army Service Center in Rutland, Vermont.
Her responsibilities: general and holiday assistance, advisory board recruitment and involvement, programming, and fundraising activities. In addition, Pam will recruit and arrange transportation for children to attending The Salvation Army’s Camp Sebago summer residential program in Maine.
Pam stated, “I am excited to be here in Rutland! I look forward to getting out into the community and getting to know my neighbors and how we can come together to best serve the community.”
For two decades, Pam has worked for nonprofits, including past employment with The Salvation Army.
She brings to the organization a strong social service background and a passion to serve others in need.
