Commissioner William A. Bamford was born in Philadelphia, PA to Salvation Army officer parents. In 1980 he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and worked for seven years as a pharmacist in Massachusetts, where he and his wife lived. Lorraine (Brown) Bamford had grown up in the Massachusetts area. She studied foreign languages at Eastern Nazarene College and taught French and Spanish in Hingham, Massachusetts. In 2000 Bill earned a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Geneva College.
While on vacation at Old Orchard Beach, the Bamfords were called by God to leave the field of pharmacy and teaching and entered The Salvation Army School for Officer Training in order to pursue ordination and commissioning as Salvation Army officers. In the US, they have served in appointments in the Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division, Western Pennsylvania, Southern New England, Northeast Ohio. God’s leading then took the Bamfords to South America, where they served for almost four years as Chief Secretary and Territorial Secretary for Women’s Ministries in the South America West Territory. This Territory encompasses the countries of Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. During those four years, Commissioner Lorraine coordinated The Salvation Army’s Anti-trafficking ministries in that territory. They presently serve as Territorial Commander and Territorial President of Women’s Ministries, respectively, of the USA Eastern Territory of the Salvation Army.
Commissioners Bamford are blessed with three children and four grandchildren, with another on the way! All three children graduated from Asbury College in Kentucky. Their oldest child, Michelle lives with her husband Jerry in NY where he is employed in the THQ Communications Department and she at the CFOT in childcare. Nicole, her husband Ryan and their children Connor and Claire also live the New York area where Ryan works as a photographer. Nicole is a school counselor. Son Bill (the 4th), his wife Jess and Billy V live in the Washington, DC area where Bill works as a CPA/accountant for The Salvation Army and Jess as a special needs teacher.
The Bamfords are long-time aficionados of Old Orchard Beach Camp Meetings and the beautiful seven-mile beach, having vacationed there since childhood. They enjoy walking, running (at least one of them does) and being with family. And they love serving as Salvation Army officers.
