Dash into National Donut Day with The Salvation Army in Warren

Warren, OH (May 12th, 2021) – On June 4th, 2021, in celebration of National Donut Day, The Salvation Army in Warren, located at 270 Franklin St. Warren, OH 44483, will be hosting the first annual Donut Day Dash Virtual 5K. This event will honor the history of Donut Day and funds raised through the virtual 5K registrations will The Salvation Army in meeting the needs of the community.

“The Salvation Army kicked off the 1st National Donut Day back in 1938 to honor the Donut Lassies. Donut Lassies were women, from The Salvation Army during World War I, who made donuts on the battlefields to provide a comfort of home to our soldiers fighting,” stated Captain Christopher Williams, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army in Warren Corps Community Center.

Registration for participants is $30. All participants will receive a drawstring bag, t-shirt, lanyard, and coupons for a local coffee shop. Sponsorship opportunities ranging in value from $250 to $1,000 are also available for local businesses. Proceeds raised from the event will help address food insecurity and other basic needs in the Warren community.

“Hunger and food insecurity are harsh realities in our neighborhoods. This past year, our food pantry saw an all-time record for those seeking our assistance. We are encouraging everyone in our community to support our Donut Day Dash Virtual 5K. Help us continue to help our neighbors in need,” continued Williams.
