Needs Great in Lebanon

Nov 25, 2020

As Lebanon County residents seek to do good ahead of the holiday season, many are turning to an old standby of charity -- The Salvation Army.

Lebanon County's Salvation Army has served tens of thousands of children and families over the decades with its Red Kettle programs, and has provided toys and clothes to the needy with its Angel Tree program.

This year, though, as customers seek to avoid travel and many Americans remain tight on cash, the organization is anticipating a 50 percent decline in donations, according to 69 News.

"The fundraising is going to be difficult, but the need is multiplied," said Marlon Rodriguez, who along with his wife, Ivonne, administers the local chapter. "Things have changed track dramatically."

Over its long history, Lebanon's Salvation Army has established relationships with retailers at a local level, in addition to working with national chains.

Sunset Grocery, two Walmarts (Lebanon and Palmyra), two Redner's locations (one in Fredricksberg and one in Palmyra), three locations at the Lebanon Valley Mall (the theater, side, and main entrances), Hobby Lobby, Boscov's, the Farmer's Market, Big Lots, BG's Market, and Laudermilch have all given the organization permission to ring bells, Marlon said.
