The Salvation Army Goes Virtual for Annual “Give $20 on December 20th” Kettle Campaign

Dec 17, 2020

Cleveland, OH – (December 17th, 2020):  On Sunday, December 20th, a day when The Salvation Army bells are not ringing at Red Kettles, they are asking community members to support their annual “Give $20 on December 20th” kettle campaign virtually this year. This campaign encourages online donations of $20 to help close out the kettle season in a big and meaningful way.

“A $20 donation to our virtual kettle on December 20th, will be a deliberate act of kindness and compassion for our neighbors in need.” said, Major Thomas Applin, Divisional Secretary of Greater Cleveland Area Services. “$20 can provide 10 nutritious meals for local families.  There is such a strong need in our community, especially among children, who through no fault of their own, are hungry this holiday season.   We see it every day and we rely on the generosity of our community to support the Red Kettle effort.” continued, Applin. “Giving from the comfort of your home has never been easier.  Simply visit  http://salarmy.us/greaterclevelandredkettle  to make a $20 gift to our Greater Cleveland  Virtual Red Kettle”, finished Applin. The ringing of the bell and the iconic red kettle have been a fixture of the holiday season for 129 years. The funds raised during the holiday season provide year-round support for Christmas assistance programs, shelter, utility assistance, feeding programs and children’s after school learning programs.

With COVID-19, many volunteers and workers are unable to staff kettle sites this year, which is having an impact on donations.  The Salvation Army in Greater Cleveland has brought in about $246,500 with a goal to raise $650,000.  The community’s financial support and kindness during the holidays enables The Salvation Army to assist more than 1 million people in the Greater Cleveland throughout the year.

For more information or if you are interested in volunteering to ring the bell, please contact the Greater Cleveland Area Services at 216.861.8185.
