Donut Day 2025

Jun 16, 2025

Did you know National Donut Day (June 6, 2025) was first created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served the doughnuts to soldiers in World War I? This day began as a fund-raiser for Chicago's Salvation Army. The goal of their 1938 fund-raiser was to help the needy during the Great Depression.

We still celebrate the holiday each year! For us, at The Salvation Army York, we drop donuts off to our hard-working friends in the community helping to serve others, i.e. healthcare workers, first-responders, etc. and then we take a couple of dozen over to our friends at Powder Mill Senior Commons. This has become a yearly tradition we love to participate in. We share donuts and stories with the residents, always leaving with our stomachs and hearts full!
