Jim Scott Receiving Proclamation from City of Cincinnati with Salvation Army officer

Jim Scott: Doing the Most Good as a Volunteer

Jim Scott is a name that is well-known in the Cincinnati area as a popular radio personality who spent over four decades entertaining listeners on local airwaves. However, many people may not know that Jim has also been a dedicated volunteer with The Salvation Army since 2014, using his platform to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

His Cincinnati radio career began at the iconic WSAI AM, where he played Top 40 music on the station that was the city's go-to for rock music. Eventually, Jim moved to 700 WLW, where he continued to dominate the morning ratings for years, providing listeners with a soothing yet upbeat start to their day. During his tenure, Jim interviewed countless dignitaries and celebrity newsmakers, from presidents to movie stars to sports figures, and routinely talked with news correspondents from around the globe.

Throughout his career, Jim has used his radio fame to serve as the voice of volunteerism in Cincinnati, most notably by serving as the Honorary Chair of the Red Kettle campaign for The Salvation Army. In this role, Jim rings bells at Kroger stores throughout the city and engages with the community, reminding them of the power of giving back. He even continued to ring bells on his 80th birthday, an act of dedication that earned recognition from WCPO.

Jim's dedication to Cincinnati and the power of volunteerism was recognized with the prestigious Marconi Award for Large Market Radio Personality of the Year from the National Association of Broadcasters in 2002. The Cincinnati Enquirer named him the All-Time No. 1 radio personality in 2013, a testament to the impact he has had on the city.

Jim's commitment to volunteerism has also significantly impacted our community. He has served on numerous boards and volunteered for many Cincinnati nonprofits, including the United Way, the March of Dimes, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Hoxworth Blood Center, and WCET.

But Jim's impact goes beyond his achievements and recognition. His dedication to serving others and giving back to his community inspires us all, reminding us that we can all make a difference in the world.

Jim said, "I am thankful every day for the people in Greater Cincinnati who listened to me every morning on their radio. Any time I get a chance to say thanks and give back, I do."

"Many times, we don't know our neighbors. And neighbors aren't just the people next door. The Salvation Army is a servant to our entire community. Through the Salvation Army's red kettles, we can truly show our love for our neighbor."

At The Salvation Army, we are honored to work with Jim and witness his passion for volunteerism firsthand. His dedication to our organization and mission has significantly impacted the lives of those we serve, and his commitment to making a difference in our community is a reminder that we can all make a difference, no matter how big or small our actions may seem.

We hope that Jim's story inspires others to get involved and make a difference in the lives of those in need. Whether it's through volunteering, donating, or spreading the word about our mission, we invite you to join us in our work. Together, we can make a real difference and help those who need it most.
