See PhotosThe Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) stands ready to serve communities across every zip code in Massachusetts, as well as communities around the world in the event of natural or man-made disasters.
Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, snowstorms, floods, and man-made disasters pose a great threat to our country. Every year, disasters destroy local economies and devastate lives. They cause Americans emotional damage and cost $24.4 billion in insured losses each year. We’re here to help – in any given year, we provide nearly 800,000 survivors with support, hope, and healing.
We need people like you, ready and willing to help at any moment, to join our team. To be considered for service when the next disaster strikes, you will need some training and education in advance. We are always seeking skilled retired or semi-retired professionals to serve in a number of leadership functions as well.

While every disaster is unique, the core of our disaster program consists of several basic services. And while these services address many of the typical needs of a disaster survivor, Salvation Army disaster relief is also flexible. Our services are adapted to the specific needs of individuals and communities, and are scalable according to the magnitude of the disaster.

After an individual or family has lost everything in a disaster, The Salvation Army is there to provide emergency assistance to help meet survivors’ most urgent needs for food, clothing, clean-up, and other critical resources
Some effects of disasters are unseen – many survivors and first responders suffer emotional stress and trauma. The Salvation Army delivers vital emotional and spiritual care. This could mean providing Psychological First Aid or a shoulder for crying. Other times it calls for an ear just for listening or a sought after prayer. No matter what’s needed, The Salvation Army is ready to help.
When disaster strikes, EDS teams immediately deploy to support survivors and first responders with emergency feeding, hydration, shelter support, and Emotional and Spiritual Care (ESC).
The Salvation Army leads long-term recovery efforts for as long as a community needs us. That often means we stay to help months, even years, after a disaster. We work with local, state, and federal governments to form a long-term disaster recovery plan. The plan is far-reaching. It meets basic needs providing disaster social services, as well as restoration and rebuilding projects. It includes the dispersal of financial help and donated goods. All to help survivors rebuild their lives.
