We love because God loved us first

The Salvation Army provides spiritual services to anyone God brings across our path.

At its heart, The Salvation Army is a church. This foundation is what motivates us to do the work that we do.

We love God and serve others because of His love for all. That’s where our mission comes from – to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet needs in His name without discrimination. We want to introduce the love of God into the lives of those most in need, as we care for them physically, emotionally and spiritually. We do this by offering prayer, pastoral counseling, Bible-based ministries for all ages, and Sunday worship.

Our Worship and Service Centers

We operate 29 worship and service centers in neighborhoods across every zip code in Massachusetts. Each center is a church to the local community, as well as place anyone in need can receive assistance through a wide range of social services.

How we help share God's love

We share God's love through a variety of programs and services that are unique and tailored to each community. Below are just a few highlights of how The Salvation Army serves our neighbors in Massachusetts daily.

 Combating Hunger

Food insecurity is a major threat to people experiencing poverty, particularly in urban areas. According to Project Bread, 11.4% of Massachusetts households, equating to approximately 700,000 children and adults, don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Our soup kitchens, shelters and after-school programs serve nutritious meals to those who might otherwise go hungry.

After-School Programs

Parents who struggle to find quality employment often have to work more than one job to provide for their family’s basic needs. Frequently, there isn’t enough left over to afford costly care for their children after school. That’s where our programs come in—to provide a nurturing environment where homework gets done, kids play, and children eat nutritious meals. Because our programs provide all this for little to no cost, parents can spend quality time at home before getting kids to bed on a school night.

Senior Programs

A rapidly growing and often under-served population, seniors (aged 55+) find a welcoming place to gather, socialize, and eat well-balanced meals at The Salvation Army. Through health clinic visitations, senior camp experiences, and other timely instructional seminars, seniors receive enrichment during their golden years.

The Salvation Army is a worldwide church offering:

A Place for All

All are welcome at our Salvation Army worship services on Sundays and weekday ministries. You don't need to have ever stepped into a church before to walk through our doors. You'll find that our services are pretty informal, and even fun. We’d love to see you anytime.

A Big Vision

Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human needs in His name without discrimination is our mission - and one you can be part of. With your help, we are able to help almost 30 million people per year in the U.S. alone. Worldwide, it is said that only the United Nations provides more direct social service help to individuals than The Salvation Army.

Sunday Worship

Whether church is already part of your life or you are experiencing faith for the first time, you are always welcome. Each of our Worship and Service Centers in the U.S. offers a Sunday worship service, plus programming for adults and children on Sunday mornings. Contact your local center for times.

Weekday Ministries

We know Sundays don’t always work, so we want to make sure you have a chance to connect with other believers when you can. Most cities offer programming during the week for people of all ages — from men’s and women’s Bible studies to youth groups and character-building classes for kids.

Pastoral Counseling

Our officers are ordained pastors and can help you work through any season in life — spiritual or emotional. They offer advice based on God’s Word and will pray with you for the strength to press on. Whether you are facing the loss of a loved one, working through legal difficulties, or just need to share with someone, you'll find someone ready to listen.

Free Prayer

Walk into any Salvation Army and you'll find someone willing to pray with you on the spot. You can also request prayer online at any time. We pray for each and every request we receive.

The Salvation Army is a Worldwide Church

Every Salvation Army Corps location is a place of worship, with a mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ without discrimination. The Salvation Army's eleven articles of faith reflect our determination to remain faithful to our standards and principles.

We believe:

  • The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.
  • There is only one God who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver, and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship.
  • There are three persons in the Godhead - the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory.
  • In the person of Jesus Christ the Divine and human natures are united, so that He is truly and properly God and truly and properly man.
  • Our first parents were created in a state of innocence, but by their disobedience, they lost their purity and happiness, and that in consequence of their fall, all men have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God.
  • The Lord Jesus Christ has by His suffering and death made an atonement for the whole world so that whosoever will may be saved.
  • Repentance toward God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are necessary to salvation.
  • We are justified by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and that He that believeth hath the witness in Him self.
  • Continuance in a state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ.
  • It is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified, and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • In the immortality of the soul; in the resurrection of the body; in the general judgment at the end of the world; in the eternal happiness of the righteous; and in the endless punishment of the wicked.
