The Salvation Army is a volunteer-fueled organization with opportunities for individuals, families, and groups large and small. Almost 3.3 million people of all ages volunteered their time, talents, and resources to assist The Salvation Army's work. Our volunteers are critical partners in helping us fulfill our promise to America of "Doing the Most Good." Join the fight today!
We offer volunteers a chance to change people's lives across a wide range of activities and programs - all the while, being changed themselves. All of our volunteer opportunities are coordinated locally, where our staff understands exactly how you can be of the most help to the most people.
We can accommodate your group’s desire to do something good together – whether family, friends, coworkers, civic or church groups. Group volunteer activities are typically project-based or part of a larger event.
We need people like you, ready and willing to help at any moment, to join our team. To be considered for service when the next disaster strikes, you will need some training and education in advance. We are always seeking skilled retired or semi-retired professionals to serve in a number of leadership functions as well.
Volunteer Individually
Volunteer Opportunities in Paterson:
Our food pantry serves from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday. As a volunteer you would sort food, stock shelves and prepare bags of food for clients.
Every winter The Salvation Army hosts its Red Kettle campaign. Volunteers assist with collecting donations at our famous Red Kettles by ringing bells at various locations.
During Christmas we assist a number of families in providing gifts for their children. Volunteers assist us in registering these low income families to receive toys and food.
Our angel tree program allows donors to purchase gifts for specific families during Christmas. As a volunteer you would "man" a Christmas tree at various locations as the community donates toys and clothes
For those who are unable to register for some of our Christmas programs due to age, we also distribute gifts to nursing homes. As a volunteer you would assist in nursing home visitation as well as the distribution of gifts.
If you are musically gifted consider sharing your gift with our church family. We are in need of a piano player for Sunday morning worship. If you are skilled in piano or any other instrument contact us if you would like to be involved.
