Welcome to The Learning Lighthouse

The Learning Lighthouse is a mission-driven childcare program serving children and families in and around Mount Vernon, Ohio. We exist to provide more than supervision. We are building a safe, joyful, and dependable early learning environment where children are known, nurtured, and prepared to grow, while families gain the peace of mind that comes from trusted care.

In many communities, families need childcare that is reliable, affordable, and truly educational. They need a place where children can build confidence, relationships, language, curiosity, and independence from the earliest years. The Learning Lighthouse was created to help meet that need by pairing warm, responsive care with intentional early learning experiences that support the whole child.

Our vision is to be a place where children feel secure, families feel supported, and learning begins with wonder. We want every child who walks through our doors to experience a strong foundation for school and for life through caring relationships, meaningful play, and thoughtful instruction.
 

Our Philosophy and Curriculum

The Learning Lighthouse philosophy is simple: children deserve a strong start that honors both who they are now and who they are becoming. We use a combination of Lillio Early Learning Curriculum and Pearson assessments to hone an appropriate learning plan for every child. We believe learning should be active, joyful, and responsive to each child’s stage of development. That is why we combine teacher-guided experiences with child-led discovery, creating classrooms where curiosity is welcomed, creativity is encouraged, and every child has room to grow. This approach closely reflects developmentally appropriate practice as outlined by NAEYC, which emphasizes active engagement through play, exploration, and inquiry in support of the whole child. 

This means our classrooms are designed around how young children learn best: through play, exploration, hands-on discovery, relationships, and consistent routines. Our teachers use engaging activities that support language and literacy, physical development, social-emotional growth, approaches to learning, and cognitive development, reflecting the domains emphasized in Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards.
