Cleveland Echelon Chapter of The Salvation Army organized a Back to School Carnival
(July 21st, 2026) Cleveland, OH — The Salvation Army in Greater Cleveland prioritized back-to-school support across Cuyahoga County. Echelon, a group of young business professionals dedicated to community outreach for The Salvation Army, organized a back-to-school carnival at Zelma George Family Shelter, located at 1710 Prospect Ave in Cleveland. The event took place in the early afternoon on Saturday, June 18th, offering bookbags, school supplies, and family-friendly activities for all attendees.
"Providing kids with all necessary school supplies is crucial, as it boosts their confidence and happiness, enabling them to succeed. At this event, our Echelon chapter supplied over 70 children with school supplies and created a lively atmosphere for 140 families during the Carnival,” said Captain Joel Ashcraft, Divisional Secretary of Greater Cleveland Area Services.
The Salvation Army’s Echelon Chapter holds this event annually to support youth initiatives. Families enjoy games, lunch, arts and crafts, and various activities during the event.
“Kids need time simply to be kids, and our Echelon volunteers offered just that to children in a family shelter. We made them feel loved and supported, sending them home with backpacks filled with school supplies. It was a joyful afternoon,” said Hannah McIntyre, President of The Salvation Army in Greater Cleveland Echelon Chapter.
