Giant Eagle Supports The Salvation Army’s Relief Efforts Following Train Derailment

Cleveland (March 20, 2023) –Thanks to the generosity of corporate partner Giant Eagle, The Salvation Army will continue to serve families and individuals impacted by February’s 50-car train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. Giant Eagle has generously donated 3,000 bottles of all-purpose cleaner to The Salvation Army for distribution in both Ohio and Pennsylvania.

“We are extremely appreciative of the work The Salvation Army continues to do to support our neighbors in need in and around East Palestine,” said Giant Eagle Senior Director of Corporate Communications Dan Donovan. “Community organizations like The Salvation Army are critical resources for businesses like Giant Eagle to identify effective ways to meaningfully contribute in times of crisis, and we thank our partner for facilitating this product donation.”

The Salvation Army is providing water, food, cleaning supplies and spiritual care to families and individuals in Ohio and across state lines in Pennsylvania. Since the train derailment, The Salvation Army has distributed 11,837 cases of water, 3,300 gallons of water and 17,440 cleaning supplies to residents (stats as of March 13, 2023).
