Probate Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer to be Honored as the Community Medal Award Recipient
Akron, OH, August 5, 2022–Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer will be honored by The Salvation Army at its eighteenth annual Community Medal Award and Red Kettle Kickoff Thursday, November 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at St. George Fellowship Hall, 3204 Ridgewood Road, Fairlawn.
The Salvation Army’s Community Medal Award is presented to individuals and organizations who make a significant ongoing impact in the Greater Akron community through professional and volunteer work.
“We are pleased to recognize Judge Stormer as a compassionate public servant that has made a real difference from the bench for our community. She has used her keen understanding and knowledge to create programs for the mentally ill, rehabilitated felons and addicts,” said Major Robert A. Watson, Area Coordinator for The Salvation Army in Summit County. “Judge Stormer’s work has been recognized and emulated across our nation. We applaud her work here in Summit County as it closely aligns with The Salvation Army’s mission of helping persons who have fallen into need.”
Judge Stormer is a graduate of Davidson College Honors College and received her law degree from the University of Akron School of Law.
"Beginning in 1991, Judge Stormer served in both the Municipal Court and Court of Common Pleas. She started the first Municipal Drug Court and the first Mental Health Specialty Court in Ohio. In the Court of Common Pleas Judge Stormer created a model Reentry Court to help offenders returning from the prison system become productive citizens. In 2012 Judge Stormer became a Probate Court Judge where she began a Mediation Program and Senior Vi itor and Volunteer Guardian Programs, both serving indigent wards under this Court’s jurisdiction."
The Salvation Army’s Community Medal luncheon is also the formal launch of its 2022 Red Kettle Campaign. Along with honoring Judge Stormer, the event heralds the start of the holiday season with volunteer bell ringers at kettle locations from November through Christmas Eve at venues throughout the county.
“With our community still reeling from the after-effects of COVID and the economy, there is a significant increase in need,” said Major Watson. “A strong start to the Red Kettle campaign is needed to support the life-changing programs we provide.”
