The Salvation Army in Greater Cleveland Echelon Chapter hosted Back to School Carnival
Cleveland, OH (August 21st, 2024) – The Salvation Army in Greater Cleveland has been focused on supporting back-to-school needs throughout Cuyahoga County. Echelon, which is an organization of young business professionals who are focused on community outreach on behalf of The Salvation Army, hosted a back-to-school carnival for all the families who reside at The Salvation Army’s Zelma George Family Shelter, located at 1710 Prospect Ave in Cleveland. The event was held on August 3rd in the early afternoon to provide bookbags, school supplies, and family-friendly events for all to enjoy.
“It’s so important for kids to have all the supplies to start the school year. It brings them a level of confidence and joy and allows them to achieve anything. During this event, our Echelon chapter impacted over 70 children with school supplies, and 140 families enjoyed the joyful energy around their Carnival,” stated Captain Joel Ashcraft, Divisional Secretary of Greater Cleveland Area Services.
This has become an annual event for The Salvation Army’s Echelon Chapter, which is committed to supporting youth work. Throughout the event, families experience games, lunch, arts and crafts, and other activities.
“Kids need time just to be kids. And that’s a gift our Echelon volunteers provided to these youngsters living in a family shelter. We helped them feel loved and supported and sent them off with a backpack filled with school supplies. It was an afternoon filled with joy,” stated Madi Maruna, The Salvation Army in Greater Cleveland Echelon Chapter President.
