Thrift Store is Closing, but The Salvation Army is Here to Stay
Elyria, Ohio (June 3rd, 2024)—The Salvation Army is saddened to announce that after many years of loyal service to the Elyria area, The Salvation Army Family Thrift Store at 165 Cleveland Street will close on June 30, 2024. The store, which has been a staple in the community for nearly three decades, has provided tens of thousands of items of clothing, home goods, furniture, and more to residents for low cost to help those who needed it most.
“This is a heartbreaking decision for us at The Salvation Army to close a thrift store that has been such a critical part of the Elyria community for a long time. However, financially, we can no longer sustain the efforts at this location. The Elyria community has blessed us by embracing us for so long, and we thank them for their community support over the years,” stated Captain Bryden Swires, Administrator of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers in Cleveland.
The Salvation Army Thrift Stores are a vital component in helping to fund and support rehabilitation programs for individuals at no cost to recover from drug and alcohol addictions.
However, The Salvation Army is not leaving the Lorain County community. The Salvation Army has active operations for all who need assistance or support, such as rent, utilities, after-school programming, summer day camp, and overnight camp located in Elyria at 716 Broad St. and in Lorain at 2506 Broadway.
“The Salvation Army will always be part of our local community. While this store location is closing, we will have other locations available for patrons to visit in both Avon and Strongsville. We are working to ensure that our community is supported and cared for during this transition,” continued Swires.
