GOP Rings Bells Raises Money for The Salvation Army

Major Debra Ashcraft, State Representative Tom Delnicki, Majors Migdalia & Tim Lavenbein

CONNECTICUT – Republicans rang bells to raise money for The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign in Connecticut again this holiday. The Salvation Army of Southern New England, Connecticut Senate Republicans and Connecticut House Republicans partnered with local businesses to raise money that will benefit constituents in districts throughout the state. Funds donated will help The Salvation Army serve local communities by providing toys, warm coats, nutritious meals and other vital services throughout the year for thousands of children, adults and families.

Nearly $5,000 was raised this year, which included funds raised through a peer-to-peer platform put in place this year due to COVID-19. Over $205,000 was raised throughout the last several years for the Republican Kettle Campaign. “Each year, the need for volunteers to ring the bell for The Salvation Army is great,” said Major Debra Ashcraft, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Southern New England Division. “We are grateful for our Republican officials who rang the bell at a Red Kettle. Funds raised through The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign help local neighbors who are facing hunger, poverty and job loss.”

State Representative Tom Delnicki raised $418.27 during his hour of ringing at the Stop & Shop in South Windsor. –"The Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign is not only a long-standing tradition during the holidays, but it is also a great campaign that lends a helping hand to our neighbors when they need it most," said State Representative Delnicki. "It is truly an honor to be recognized for collecting the most funds out of all House and Senate Republicans in the Connecticut legislature, but I have to thank the great people of South Windsor for their generosity in making this collection such a success. This is just another example of what I already know to be true, when disaster strikes – as it has with COVID-19 – our community bands together and responds in a way that is inspiring. I would also like to thank Stop & Shop for agreeing to let us 'ring the bell' this year, and to The Salvation Army for organizing this event despite the challenges this year has brought. I am grateful to have played a small role in this bell ringing, and I know this money will go a long way in providing life-sustaining services when many are in need of help."
