Greater Valley

With the help of dedicated volunteers like Edith Cruz, Salvation Army Greater Valley officer Major Kathi Longcoy continues to serve those in need in Ansonia and throughout the Greater Valley. As a mother of eight children, Edith knows a thing or two about serving others. Edith originates from Puerto Rico and says she has received so much from God and therefore gives back by helping others.

Danbury

The Salvation Army in Danbury continues to be a beacon of light and hope in this storm where people continue to be in need. We all have been affected one way or another, but by joining our efforts, the needs of those in the Danbury community will be met.

Norwalk

Double L Market located at 730 Post Road East in Westport came through with another donation to The Salvation Army in Norwalk! This time, they received dozens of fresh eggs for families in need!

Meriden

The Meriden Lion's Club and its members and donors showed their desire to "Be Kind" to ALL in our Meriden community by making a donation to the Meriden Salvation Army. Their generous donation will help sustain The Salvation Army’s food pantry and soup kitchen during the COVID crisis. Due to an increase of new clients who have lost work because of COVID-19, distribution has doubled.

Steve Parker from WTIC Radio 1080 dropped off a donation of food at the New Britain Salvation Army! The generous donation came from the Stop & Shop in Newington located at 206 Kitts Lane and will go a long way to helping those in need in the New Britain community.

Meriden

Middlesex Community College donated 333 pounds of food from the Magic Food Bus to help those in need in Meriden! The Salvation Army’s food pantry in Meriden is open 3 days a week, and the soup kitchen is open on the weekends.

Norwalk

Double L Market located at 730 Post Road East in Westport donated fresh strawberries to The Salvation Army in Norwalk! With this donation, they will be able to provide fresh produce to families in need.

New London

The Salvation Army in New London received a much need donation of food from the Gemma E. Moran United Way Food Bank. Thank you as well to the volunteers from Connecticut College who helped sort and box the donated food.

Litchfield Hills

Funds and resources were provided to open three food pantries to service seniors living in Litchfield Senior Housing complexes. To date, 50 boxes have been supplied. “As I dropped off a delivery, a senior came along with her walker concerned because she had not remembered to place her order for a Salvation Army box. She was immediately reassured by Jim Simoncelli, Litchfield Housing Authority, indicating he would be sure she received an order form”!

Residents of Ballard Greene Apartments, a Ridgefield Housing Authority community, were provided 40 boxes of food. “The residents were very grateful! Norwich

Under normal circumstances, The Salvation Army of Norwich usually participates in the sit-down Community Meal held at Lee Memorial on the second Sunday of every month. As a result of Covid-19, a change of location was required. Thank you to Jillian Corbin at St. Vincent de Paul Place Norwich, who agreed that food could be distributed in their parking lot on Sundays.

The Salvation Army of Norwich kept our normal scheduled meal date of the second Sunday of the month. We prepared ham and cheese and turkey and cheese sandwiches. Some of the bread was donated by D'elia's Bakery & Grinder Shop (48 rolls), snacks and water donated by Norbert Trasko and Margaret Carroll. Thank you to our volunteers as well: Margaret Carroll, Kenyetta Champlin, and Norbert Trasko. Other community members were also in attendance such as Clergy Association Pastor Paul Doyle from Park Congregational Church with members, Brenda McDonald, and then there was Robert Bell, 46 District Candidate for House of Representative.

Salvation Army volunteers handed out 80 prepared bags that included fruit, water and, of course, Easter candy!

Food boxes were delivered to The Salvation Army’s Southern Fairfield County Service Unit for Westport and Fairfield this week. “We have many families faced with loss of income, children at home and not enough resources for food,” said Susan Stefenson, DHS Finance Manager at the Department of Human Services in Westport, CT. “We really appreciate the help, and so will our residents,” said Julie DeMarco, Director of Human Services in Fairfield, CT.

Meriden

The Salvation Army in Meriden didn't let the pandemic stop them from spreading some Easter cheer! They delivered Easter baskets filled with candy treats to families in the community. Thank you to Store Manager Derek Slipke and the CVS at 839 East Main Street in Meriden for generously donating cases of Easter candy! With your help, we were able to brighten the day of those in the Meriden community.

Women from the Women and Families Center deliver groceries from the Meriden food pantry to the families they work with. With the help from our community partners, we will continue to fight for those in need.

Newport

Newport County is ready to serve! The Salvation Army in Newport, Rhode Island has been distributing prepackaged boxes from their Food Pantry. In each box, a family will also receive a roll of paper towels and toilet paper. In addition, they have been distributing bagged lunches. These lunches are for the whole family - adults included.

The Salvation Army of Waterbury continues to operate its food pantry for the residents of the Greater Waterbury area who are experiencing food shortages. During this pandemic, providing pre-packed food bags for clients to make the distribution process faster and safer. The Salvation Army is here to fight bravely against the invisible enemy.

The Salvation Army is active in serving the New Britain community in a number of ways. The food bank is open by appointment only. Sonja from the ADM Group took it upon herself to create a food collection for The Salvation Army in Stamford's food pantry! Together with her community at Hubbard Heights, they were able to collect non-perishable items for those in need in Stamford.

The Salvation Army in Pawtucket, Rhode Island has taken it to the streets! Providing food for those in need in the Pawtucket community by serving from our Emergency Disaster Services canteen.
