What's Your Why?

Fahmy Mamuya

Volunteer Bio
I received my PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware, and I am currently a Cancer Researcher at the UConn Health Technology Incubation Program - QCDx. I'm a parent to two wonderful children: my daughter Leyla, who is 16, and my son Jayden, who is 5 years old. In my free time, I'm passionate about playing and watching soccer. My spouse, Simona, and I share a love for traveling and indulging in non-fiction novels.

Why do you like to volunteer?
Volunteering is a rewarding experience that benefits both the volunteer and the community.

Why did you choose to volunteer with The Salvation Army?
My decision to volunteer with The Salvation Army was not based on any personal connections but rather on my strong identification with the organization's mission and objectives.

What benefits do you receive from volunteering your time?
Volunteering allows building relationships not only with fellow volunteers but also with those we serve, cultivating a feeling of gratitude, and gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges others face.

Have you seen firsthand the benefits of your volunteer work in the people we serve?
Yes, I have seen the feelings of belonging, dignity, and hope, and it happens every time I volunteer.

The Salvation Army thanks Fahmy for doing the most good!
