We fight poverty with love
By providing programs that serve the body, mind and soul, The Salvation Army helps alleviate the symptoms of poverty - and works to address the root issues that cause it.
More than 15% of Washington County lives below the poverty line
We strive every day to be a support to those living in poverty. Our greatest goal is to break the cycle of poverty and see individuals someday return to independence.
A Home of His Own
Joe came to us after decades on the streets. He had been on his own since he was 17, and finally had enough. Disabled from an accident many years ago, he had no history, no ID and no income. We were able to help him get identification, apply for disability benefits, and secure an apartment of his own for the first time in his life.
How we help overcome poverty
The Salvation Army in Marietta aims to address physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs as it works to overcome poverty here in Washington County.
Emergency Food Pantry
Our food pantry is available to residents of Washington County. A cart of bread and perishable donations from local restaurants is available to anyone.
Clothing Room
We offer a clothing room to anyone with a need for gently used clothing. Our stock is constantly rotating (we distribute hundreds of items every month) so come on by and see what we have!
Utility Assistance (By Appointment Only)
We can help residents of Washington County pay off shutoff notices for electricity (AEP Ohio, Washington Electric Co-op), water (City of Marietta), and gas (Dominion Energy). Call us at 740-373-4043 to schedule an appointment for utility assistance.
