The Salvation Army Helps Meet the Needs of Disaster Survivors Locally, Nation-Wide & World-Wide:

In Shelby County:

Emergency Preparedness

As one of the largest disaster relief organizations in the country, The Salvation Army recognizes the need to be prepared.

We offer resources to Salvation Army and Shelby County materials to help families be prepared for any disaster that may come their way.

Immediate Response

The local EDS team is responsible for canteening services to the First Responders of Shelby County.

They are dispatched to active scenes to provide Frist Responders with snacks, drinks, and sometimes a meal. The team offers physical nourishment while refreshing the weary souls of the First Responders through service with a smile.

Disaster Recovery

The Salvation Army continues to aid survivors of disasters throughout their recovery process. We collaborate with various community partners to make sure that survivors have or know how to get the assistance and resources they need.

The recovery process can be just as stressful, if not more, than the disaster itself.

The Ministry of Presence

The Salvation Army helps treat the emotional stress and trauma of disaster survivors and first responders with emotional support and spiritual comfort. Whether it's lending a listening ear, offering a hug, joining together in prayer, or simply being present.

Nation-Wide & World-Wide:

Emergency Preparedness

As one of the largest disaster relief organizations in the country, The Salvation Army recognizes the need to be prepared. We educate other first responders and the public about how to prepare for and respond to natural disasters and aid in the development of emergency disaster plans.

Immediate Emergency Response

Natural disasters strike without much warning, so The Salvation Army is ready to jump into action on short notice. We gather donations, resources, and volunteers in a predetermined staging area so we're ready to help as soon as the federal, state, or local government declares the area safe to enter. Our disaster assistance includes providing food, water, and shelter to survivors, lending a hand with cleanup, and putting people in touch with their loved ones.

Long-Term Disaster Recovery

The Salvation Army continues to aid survivors of natural disasters throughout the recovery process. We collaborate with local, state, and federal governments to develop and execute a long-term disaster relief and recovery plan, including restoration and rebuilding initiatives, meeting basic needs, covering medical expenses, cutting funeral costs, and distributing in-kind donations to help survivors rebuild their lives.

Spiritual and Emotional Care

Not all aftermath of natural disasters is visible to the naked eye. The Salvation Army helps treat the emotional stress and trauma of disaster survivors and first responders with emotional support and spiritual comfort. Whether it's lending a listening ear, offering a hug, joining together in prayer, or simply being present, Salvation Army counselors are ready to help.
