Leaping into the new year with Pittsburgh Polar Bear Plunge

Jan 3, 2025

Each year, hundreds of individuals jump into the freezing Monongahela River on New Year’s Day, starting the year off raising awareness and funds for WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up.

This year, over 200 participants came down to the Mon Wharf to take the leap or cheer on their friends and families doing so. At the 2025 Pittsburgh Polar Bear Club Plunge, long and short sleeved t-shirts were available. All proceeds went directly to help keep the children and seniors of Western PA warm all winter long through project Bundle-Up.

In total, more than $10,000 was raised through donations made to WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up. Thank you to everyone who attended, and thank you to our many sponsors for this event – KeyBank, 84 Lumber, Michael Brothers Hauling, People’s, CDI Printing, GCU, Citizens Bank, Panera, Allegheny Steel Distributors, Burns and Scalo Roofing, H2R CPA, Maestros Sauce Company, and Tri-State Trailer Sales.

See you out there in 2026!
