“Freezin’ so they don’t have to” – Ring in the New Year by jumping into the FREEZING Monongahela River on Monday, January 1, 2024 with the Pittsburgh Polar Bear Club. The event is FREE but commemorative t-shirts are sold for $20 with proceeds benefiting WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up.

Directions to Mon Wharf: Go to Wood Street and turn towards the river at the entrance of Fort Pitt Blvd and Wood Street. You will see the entrance to Mon Wharf and can park in the parking area.

Just about anyone may be motivated to take a refreshing dive into the Monongahela River during a summer heat wave, but it takes a special person – and a special cause – to do so in the icy waters of January. WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up is preparing for the Annual Polar Bear Plunge in January 2024.

Hundreds of daring supporters will jump into the FREEZING river, raising funds and awareness to keep vulnerable children and seniors throughout Western PA warm each winter. Don’t worry, you don’t need to commit to taking the frigid plunge to help!

When you become a $500 t-shirt sponsor, you provide local children and seniors with the necessary warmth needed to brave this upcoming winter with new winter outerwear.

For these children and senior citizens, zipping up NEW coats, trying on NEW gloves, hats, and scarves, and pulling-on NEW winter boots is what makes WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up so uniquely gratifying. With your support, we can bring countless moments of smiles, love, warmth, and self-worth to those in our community facing the most need.
