The Salvation Army Service Center provides direct emergency assistance to residents of Somerset County through utility, food, heating, and eviction assistance during crisis situations. We identify community resources that are able to provide additional support to those struggling with basic necessities.

Services & Programs

Social Services: A vital part of our work and where we get to connect with the clients and assess their needs. Some of our available resources at the center are: clothing, medical, heating, and utility assistance. All social services are dependent on funding availability.

Child Safety Seats and Diaper Program: Offers low-income parents child safety seats as well as diapers.

Emergency Food Pantry: Food available Monday through Friday during Service Unit hours.

Emergency Disaster Services Canteen: Dispatched through the 911 Center to provide hydration and nutrition to EMS personnel as well as services to the victims of disasters.

Back-to-School Program: Eligible students within the 41 Communities that we serve are supplied with back packs including age-appropriate items for a successful school year.

Camp Allegheny: Located in Ellwood City – Residential summer camp to give fun, educational, and fulfilling life-enhancing experiences.

Angel Tree Program: Local businesses and community members donate toys to families to provide Christmas for children within the service area.

Operation Warm Hearts: Provides heating assistance to eligible families with young children, senior citizens, veterans and/or disabled individuals. 

Christmas Coat Program: The Salvation Army and The Daily American join forces to provide new winter outerwear for disadvantaged children & senior citizens.
