The Salvation Army East Stroudsburg Corps Awards Community Service Scholarships

Apr 22, 2022

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA (April 22, 2022) – The Salvation Army East Stroudsburg Corps has awarded $50,000 in scholarships to ten students from throughout Monroe County to subsidize and in some cases pay in full the tuition expenses associated with continuing their education. Todd Weitzmann, Salvation Army East Stroudsburg Corps Advisory Board Member and Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, describes the program, “For many years we have made our selection from a list of applicants that have demonstrated their participation in community service and academic achievement. This year’s group, in spite of the challenges faced by the pandemic, have spent significant time giving back to our community.  The monies awarded from a special fund can be used for scholarships given to Monroe County students continuing their education at an accredited college or university. Without this financial support, most of the recipients would be unable to attend college.”

Applications must be received by April 1 of the applying year. The number and amount of scholarship monies awarded is distributed based upon the funding available in each fiscal year from the Irene Cramer bequest and any additional scholarship fund contributions. All eligible applicants are residents of Monroe County.

Weitzmann concludes, “It has been a very tough couple of years to be completing your studies and looking towards attending college. We are very proud of the applicants and their contribution to our community. It is the Salvation Army’s hope that these monies assist them in the successful pursuit of their college degrees.”
