The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania & Delaware will be celebrating National Donut Day in a sweet way: using one of our canteen vehicles, we will be distributing donuts to elected officials and their staff. Join us for this delicious celebration!
About the History of Donut Day
In 1917, a group of women from The Salvation Army (called the Donut Lassies) traveled to the front lines of World War I to bring soliders hope with a sweet taste of home. To honor the Lassies, The Salvation Army established National Donut Day in 1938, declaring the first friday in June as one of the sweetest days of the year. The Donut Lassies' creativity is now a yearly tradition that The Salvation Army celebrates with its officers, volunteers, and local frontline workers.
