25.3% of Northumberland and Union Counties live in poverty.

Our services and programs are designed to give every family an equal chance. From social services to summer camps, our programs are available to every family, regardless of your income, to ensure every parent and their children have an equal chance of success.

Angel Tree

Every Christmas there are children who do not receive gifts because their families are struggling financially and cannot afford the expense. The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program has been running for over 40 years to ensure that these children have a wonderful holiday season with their families.

The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program helps hundreds of children each year in the Milton and Lewisburg area, through family and corporate partnerships.

Rent Assistance

Our social service caseworker helps families and individuals pay their Rent bills when faced with a financial crisis. In-person requests are received throughout the year during normal weekday hours, as well as telephone inquiries and referrals from other human service agencies.

The Salvation Army recognizes a request for assistance with an eviction often involves a complex set of circumstances. For this reason, each applicant receives much more than the processing of his or her paperwork. Through a one-to-one interview, The Salvation Army caseworker aims to identify the other factors contributing to the household's emergency situation and provides other forms of assistance, referrals, budget counseling, and emotional support as necessary. This holistic approach allows The Salvation Army to help in a way that reduces the likelihood of future crises.

Utility Assistance

Our social services caseworkers help families and individuals pay their utility bills when faced with a financial crisis. In-person requests are received throughout the year during normal weekday hours, as well as telephone inquiries and referrals from other human service agencies.

Free Food Shelf

Through a partnership with several local businesses, we offer a free bread shelf with an array of food items. No income requirements or specific household information is needed. This service is available any day our office is open.

Budgeting Help

The Salvation Army understands that financial hardships can impact any family of any income level. Our caseworkers provide budgeting help for any family looking for assistance through us.

Many times allowing households to simply understand their monthly expenses is enough to help them overcome their financial hardship.

Personal Hygiene Kits

With the high availability of food pantries throughout the area, we noticed a shortage of hygiene and personal care items available in our region. To answer this need, The Salvation Army now offers a Hygiene pantry with an array of personal and household items needed to ensure the basic care of households and their family members are met.
