The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Launches

Here. For Good.

Initiative will raise crucial funding to help financially strapped residents

rebound from impact of COVID-19

PHILADELPHIA (June 23, 2020) —Every day The Salvation Army locations across Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware receive requests for assistance due to the impact of COVID-19. Whether individuals and families need help with rent/mortgage, utilities, food, shelter, or other basic necessities, the needs are growing, and it is clear that local community members will need help recovering from unprecedented economic hardships. In order to assist the many who come seeking help, The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware has launched a new funding initiative, Here. For Good. This appeal will address the short and long-term needs of those who live in the communities that The Salvation Army serves in both states.

“As we emerge from the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, The Salvation Army is not packing up and leaving. We are immersed in communities, serving on the frontlines, and committed to helping those in need as The Salvation Army has done for over 140 years,” explained Lt. Col. Larry Ashcraft, Divisional Commander, The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware.

“Quite frankly, we are Here. For Good. And we will do all that we can to help. Some of our clients are in danger of losing their homes and others can’t afford to pay for life-saving medication. Many people can’t scrape enough together to pay their electricity bills, and the list goes on. The stories that we’re hearing across both states are heart-breaking. That’s why we are seeking assistance from generous donors and corporate partners to help us raise the necessary funding to meet the many crucial needs in our communities.”

With 40+ million additional Americans recently joining the ranks of the unemployed, The Salvation Army is expecting an onslaught of requests once statewide moratoriums on eviction and foreclosures are lifted. All assistance delivered by The Salvation Army will be tailored to meet the direct needs of each community served. If unable to meet certain requests, The Salvation Army will connect the individual to a wide network of partners within their community that have been identified as capable of assisting with case-specific needs.

“Our staff members have listened to, and prayed with, more than 35,000 people since mid-March, logged more than 136,000 hours serving on the front lines, and distributed more than 5.7 million meals in Pennsylvania and Delaware. We can’t do what we do without the help of community members. Please consider supporting our Here. For Good. initiative. The Salvation Army’s ultimate success with such a large-scale endeavor is dependent on the additional funding necessary to provide individuals and families with recovery assistance in both the short and long-term,” said Lt. Col. Ashcraft.
