Lancaster Hoping for $165,000 in Donations

Nov 18, 2020

The Salvation Army Lancaster Corps held its annual Red Kettle Campaign Kickoff on Nov. 17. Due to COVID-19, the Red Kettle Kickoff took place at the Salvation Army Lancaster Corps, 131 S. Queen St., Lancaster, and was livestreamed on the Lancaster Corps' Facebook page.

This year, the Salvation Army's campaign was again started by honorary first donor Chase Schattgen. Chase, 8, is the inspiration behind the Chasing Down Hunger food drive in the Lancaster area. Over several years, Chase has collected thousands of pounds of food for the Salvation Army's food pantry.

The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign is the largest annual fundraising event for the nonprofit. This year's goal is $165,000. Proceeds from the Red Kettle Campaign will go toward yearlong and seasonal Salvation Army programs, including the provision of food, toys, and winter wear to more than 6,000 individuals from the greater Lancaster area this Christmas season, according to Dean Satterlee, commanding officer. The Red Kettle Campaign began on Nov. 18 and will end on Thursday, Dec. 24.

Groups such as businesses, churches, and families are invited to help raise money through staffing in-person kettles or virtual kettles.
