The Greater Philadelphia Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign Kicks Off at LOVE Park
The holiday season officially began in Philadelphia as The Salvation Army in Philadelphia launched its 2025 Red Kettle Campaign with a festive celebration in LOVE Park during the opening weekend of Christmas Village.
The annual kickoff event brought together community members, local celebrities, mascots, and music for an afternoon of cheer and purpose – all to support neighbors in need. Attendees enjoyed performances from the Philadelphia Eagles Drumline and The Salvation Army Brass Band, special guest appearances, and the first symbolic donations of the season. Lt. Colonel Edgar George, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, and Captains Benjamin and Felicia Lyle, Area Commanders for Greater Philadelphia, also offered remarks to mark the occasion.
A highlight of the day was a generous $25,000 donation from Herr’s Snacks, presented by CEO Ed Herr to support The Salvation Army’s vital year-round programs, including shelter, food, disaster relief, and anti-trafficking services. JPMorganChase returned as the lead event sponsor, contributing $20,000 to cover event costs so that every kettle dollar raised goes directly to community programs.
Our lineup of celebrity bell ringers at the event did not disappoint. Media on-air personalities from CBS3, including Natasha Brown, Jim Donovan, Kim Hudson, Josh Sidorowicz, and Janelle Burrell, NBC10, including Justin Godynick and Marvin Gomez, and Jeff Kurkjian of 92.5 XTU were in attendance. Even Benjamin Franklin himself came out to ring the bell alongside mascots from Herr’s, the Philadelphia Wings, Villanova University, and Christmas Village to help spread holiday cheer and support the campaign.
Red Kettles are now out across the region. Anyone can support the campaign by volunteering or donating at www.SAPhilly.org or texting KETTLE to 31333.
