Three Salvation Army Divisions Receive $314,965 from Acme Markets for Thanksgiving Meals
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Nov. 28, 2024) — The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, along with the New Jersey and Greater New York Divisions, were presented with a check for $314,965 from ACME Markets to help purchase and distribute 3,500 Thanksgiving meals to low-income families at 48 locations. The meals included a full turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce, enough to feed a family of four to six people.
“For many, Thanksgiving is an opportunity to pause, connect and find joy in the simple gift of a shared meal. But when someone struggling with food insecurity cannot afford a Thanksgiving dinner, it can serve as a painful reminder of the financial and emotional hardships they face daily.” said Lieutenant Colonel Larry Ashcraft, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division. “Thanks to dedicated partners like ACME Markets, we are able to bring hope and sustenance to families in need.”
“We are honored to support this mission to provide Thanksgiving meals to those who may need it most,” said Dana Ward, Director of Community and Government Affairs for ACME Markets. “This contribution reflects not only our commitment to giving back to the community during the holiday season, but also our conscious collaboration with our friends at The Salvation Army. We believe in the power of community and are grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact.”
The Salvation Army provides a wide range of holiday programming annually to local individuals and families in need – including the collection and distribution of toys for children, serving Thanksgiving dinners and food boxes, Adopt-a-Family and Angel Tree holiday gift programs. The support from ACME Markets will help the organization meet the needs of struggling community members year-round through grassroot services, rehabilitation programs, job training and so much more.
