"Hungry" is no way to spend childhood

Every day The Salvation Army helps cure hunger by providing nutritious meals to neighbors in need.

The Salvation Army’s approach to feeding the hungry is formed based on the local needs of each community we serve.

  • We feed thousands daily, including the most vulnerable of our communities — underserved children in our after-school programs, the elderly at our Adult Day Centers, forgotten friends at our homeless shelters, people looking to better their lives at our addiction recovery facilities, survivors rebuilding their lives after a disaster, and domestic violence and anti-human trafficking victims.
  • Salvation Army food pantries provide groceries for families and individuals in need. Food is free, but some locations require appointments, others are on a walk-in first come first serve basis. Call your local Salvation Army office or the 211 help line to determine which food shelf serves your area.

The Salvation Army feeds an average of 156,000 every single day in the U.S.

In addition to addressing the immediate symptoms of food insecurity, our programs are designed to help identify and treat its root cause. This approach focuses on meeting the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of each person and helps move many from hungry to fully healed.
