When you don’t know where the money for your next rent payment is coming from, check with your local Worship and Service Center to see if funding is available for rent assistance. This type of funding ebbs and flows, but if we can help, we will.
During a long, cold winter, your heat bill swells and you receive a notice from your energy provider that all utilities will be disconnected unless you can pay the overdue balance. Or, maybe a job loss forced you to choose between paying rent or paying your electric bill. You chose rent and just received an electric shut off notice. We can help.
No one should ever go a day without a meal or feel ashamed about asking for help. That’s why many of our locations provide hot meals and free groceries year-round to anyone who needs them. For home-bound seniors, some areas even offer grocery delivery services.
Nothing is more stressful during a medical emergency than the piling up of unpaid bills. Check with your local service center to see if funding is currently available for medical assistance. We may be able to help with insurance co-pays and prescription costs.
The purpose of this program is to provide day-time shelter for men, women and families who are homeless. The Red Shield will provide a safe environment where these individuals can become stable, confronting the issues contributing to their homelessness. It will encourage participants to focus on establishing a plan and working towards the goal of finding permanent housing (through either employment or connection to appropriate agencies/services). The program also provides opportunities for enriching participants’ spiritual lives. We want people who are homeless to have the reassurance that their immediate needs will be met with care and compassion. With the collaboration of local agencies and churches, the services of this program may include some, if not all of the following:
Day Shelter • Meals • Showers • Case Management • Personal Care Kits • Counseling • Referrals • Arts/Music • AA Meetings • Life Skills Classes • GED Classes • Recreation Activities • Health & Education Programs • Bible Studies • Money Management & Budgeting Workshops • Spiritual Guidance.
Procedures: All participants are required to adhere to The Salvation Army rules. Those who enter The Red Shield may struggle with mental illness, physical disabilities or chemical addiction. Regardless of their circumstance, they will find a comprehensive range of services. Sign-in times are as early as 6:30 AM from Monday through Friday. Dismissal times vary depending on other programming and weather emergencies.
