Too many people feel the pain of hunger

Every day The Salvation Army helps cure hunger by providing nutritious meals to neighbors in need.

Donate Now

The Salvation Army’s approach to feeding the hungry is formed based on the local needs of each community we serve.

  • Those in need can get nutritious, hot meals or groceries from their nearest Salvation Army Service and Worship Center.
  • We feed thousands daily, including the most vulnerable of our communities — underserved children in our after-school programs, forgotten friends at our homeless shelters, people looking to better their lives at our addiction recovery facilities, survivors rebuilding their lives after a disaster, domestic violence and anti-human trafficking victims.
  • Salvation Army food pantries provide groceries for families and individuals in need. Food is free, but some locations require appointments, others are on a walk-in first come first serve basis.

Those in need receive meals each year through:

Hot Meal Programs and Food Pantries

No one should ever go a day without a meal or feel ashamed about asking for help. That’s why many of our locations provide hot meals and free groceries year-round to anyone who needs them. For home-bound seniors, some areas even offer grocery delivery services.

Red Shield Food Pantry

Our Red Shield Pantry is a collaborative program with the Akron-Canton Foodbank which began in 2005 at our East Akron Location.  This Direct Distribution of Food program—open to anyone--is now located at The Salvation Army at 2207 Romig Road, Akron, and is held every second Wednesday of the month (except December).  Doors  open around 9:30 AM followed by the distribution of foodstarting at 10:00 AM. Our number is 330-762-8481

Choice Pantry

At our main facility located at 190 S. Maple Street in Akron we provide food assistance on an emergency basis Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday through referral and by appointment.  Referrals are made by Info Line which is a centralized intake process for Summit County.  Information on eligibility is available at 330-376-4850.  Families and individuals are able to select their own food choices to meet their specific household needs.
