Through programs designed to address the mind, body and soul, we meet the needs of adults of all ages.
Each location offers varying programs specific to the needs of community. The greatest example of these community programs for adults is found in Portland, ME with their ESL and Tools for Life programs. Both of these programs are specific to adults who want to improve their English speaking skills and/or their life skills, including cooking, flower arranging, and interviewing for jobs.
Whether visiting patients in a nursing home, providing basic necessities, teaching life skills or developing lasting friendships through our adult programs, The Salvation Army in Northern New England is making a difference in the lives of adults & seniors.
Community Care Ministries
Being a patient or living in a nursing home can be lonely. That's why The Salvation Army Community Care Ministries provides thousands of friendly visits annually. A kind word, a small gift or a requested prayer are only part of the special visit. This simple kindness of sharing human company helps to combat loneliness or despair as seniors get older. In different locations we are able to offer a Christian worship service/church in the residence.
Basic Needs Help
Adults of all ages have full access to our basic needs’ services at any time. In some areas, we even have dental clinics to enhance the support we can offer adults who are living at or below the poverty line. For older adults, we have mid-day meals, transportation help, older adult ministries programs and even special housing facilities in some locations.
Different locations offer varying services to adults and seniors.
Bible Study - Each Salvation Army Worship & Service center offers at least one weekday Bible study open to everyone. We understand and appreciate the value of studying and applying the word together.
Women’s Ministry – Each Salvation Army Worship & Service Center offers a regular ministry to women generally for ages 16 & up. This ministry is part of a worldwide group of women in the army with a fourfold purpose of fellowship, worship, education and service. Each of these components are woven into these gatherings to encourage women to have positive influence and flourish.
Men’s Fellowship – Many of our corps locations offer a Men’s Fellowship. Often these times are used for fellowship, acts of service and prayer. Some men’s groups have done building projects, painting, landscaping and built horseshoe pits.
Specific to Seniors – Some locations offer regular Senior programs which include components such as lunch, fellowship, activities and special guests. This is an especially encouraging time for seniors who live alone or who may be far from family. We believe that these gatherings whether simple or extravagant help seniors to thrive in life.
