To Our Valued Community Partner,

Thank you for graciously hosting an Angel Tree for the 2025 holiday season. As you know, it takes hundreds of businesses, organizations and community members coming together to help us meet the holiday needs of over 9,000 local children.

We are pleased to be able to present to you a toolkit to assist you in raising awareness and garnering excitement for your Angel Tree. In addition, this year, we ask that you also consider helping us by encouraging other businesses and organizations to follow your generous lead. We hope that when others see the pride and excitement you are experiencing with your Angel Tree, they will want to do the same.

In your toolkit, you will see a press release, a newsletter/email article, promotional ideas and sample social media posts, and graphics. We would love to be tagged in your Facebook and LinkedIn posts (SalvationArmyCentralOhio) if possible. We would especially love that you take a photo and share your individual tree for the sake of authenticity.

What Is an Angel Tree?

Every year The Salvation Army in Central Ohio relies on area businesses and organizations to host an Angel Tree. The concept is simple – a tree is decorated with tags listing the toys and items wished for that will be given to children as gifts for Christmas. Employees, visitors or customers can take a tag off the tree which displays information about a child's age, gender, and gift wishes. Donors then purchase items specifically for that child, ensuring they receive personalized, meaningful gifts during the holiday season. It takes over 200 participating businesses to help The Salvation Army in Central Ohio provide Christmas gifts for thousands of children.

Businesses can arrange with The Salvation Army to have the purchased gifts picked up if they have 50 or more toys, they can be delivered to The Salvation Army’s E. Main location OR for those who prefer online shopping, gifts can be purchased from our registry at Walmart and shipped directly to The Salvation Army.

Impact

The Angel Tree program brings holiday joy to children who might otherwise go without gifts on Christmas morning. Last year, more than 9,000 children received new toys, and with your help, we anticipate to help even more this year.

Promotion

Businesses can invite employees, customers, community members, or visitors to choose an Angel Tree tag and purchase a gift for that specific child.

Promote participation through an email blast or organizational newsletter.
Place the Angel Tree in a prominent space in the organization.
Host a tree unveiling ceremony and treat employees to holiday treats, music, punch, etc. to spark excitement about the tree.
Encourage participants to be involved by entering their names in a drawing for a prize. (A two-hour lunch, a great parking space for the week, a free dress-down day, etc.)
Challenge departments with a trophy for having the highest percentage of participation.
Encourage other businesses to join you by hosting their own Angel Tree. The Salvation Army in Central Ohio needs 200 participating businesses and organizations to meet the need.

Marketing

Social Media: Promote the Angel Tree on social media channels using the social media post verbiage provided. Include photos or videos of YOUR tree in the social media posts and make certain to include employees or customers in your photo. Visual assets are essential in increasing the number of views to your posts. Post about the Angel Tree weekly.
Hashtags: Utilize provided hashtags for your social media posts.
Traditional Media: Promote your participation by sending the provided press release to the outlets on your media list.
Internal Communications: Utilize the provided email to send to internal stakeholders.

COLUMBUS, OH: [Name of your organization] kicked off the holiday season recently by decking the halls with an Angel Tree, provided by the Salvation Army in Central Ohio. The tree, located in [location of your tree or address of our organization] is currently filled with dozens of tags containing the wishes of children in our community who are hoping for a memorable and joyful Christmas.

The concept is simple. The Angel Tree is decorated with tags listing the toys and items wished for that will be given to children as gifts for Christmas. Participants can take a tag off the tree, which displays information about a child's age, gender, and gift wishes. Donors then purchase items specifically for that child, ensuring they receive personalized, meaningful gifts during the holiday season. It takes over 200 participating businesses and organizations to help the Salvation Army in Central Ohio provide Christmas gifts for over 9,000 children.
