Learning Centers - After School Enrollment Begins August 1st

After School Program Offers-

  • Student assessments and individualized plans
  • Holistic and Whole Child approach to hands-on and interactive learning
  • Homework help
  • Individualized and small group student instruction
  • Academic enrichment in math and reading.
  • Social development activities
  • Physical Education Activities 
  • Nutritious Dinner provided by Children’s Hunger Alliance 
  • A safe and nurturing environment Monday-Friday, 2:30pm-6:00pm

  • Citadel Learning Center - Located at the Citadel Worship & Community Center, 3662 Karl Road, Columbus, OH 43224
  • Hilltop Learning Center - Located at the Hilltop Worship & Community Center, 2300 West Mound Street, Columbus, OH 43204

Services are provided at no cost.


Volunteers Needed:

We need volunteers to tutor students in math and reading at the Learning Centers.  We ask volunteers to commit to coming for two hours at least once a week for a minimum of 10 weeks.  Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.  Due to working directly with minor children, a current Ohio BCI/FBI background check is required of all volunteers.  Please contact Lori Banfield at 614.437.2132 or by email at Lori.Banfield@use.salvationarmy.org.

Music & Arts

The Salvation Army offers various music & arts programs free of charge at each of our five Worship & Community Centers in Central Ohio.  Our music ministries can teach young people how to read music, sing, and play various instruments, while emphasizing the importance of God's love and learning.  Each location offers different programs at different dates and times.  Please contact the location closest to you to register your child:

Character Building Programs

The Salvation Army offers many different character building programs for children in kindergarten through high school. Please contact your local Salvation Army for details regarding their specific programs or to register.

Summer Day Camp- Currently Enrolling, Camp begins June 3rd.

Summer Day Camp Program Offers:

  • Academic enrichment in math and reading
  • Social development activities
  • Physical wellness
  • Service Learning Project 
  • Blend of Educational and Fun Field Trips such as COSI, Young’s Dairy, National Veterans’ Museum, Veteran’s Spray and Play Park and Columbus Zoo
  • Impactful learning experiences with community partners such as Columbus Police Department, Starfish Assignment, and My Special Word
  • Nutritious Breakfast, Lunch and Snack
  • A safe and nurturing environment for students Monday-Friday, 8:45am-3:00pm

Camp SWONEKY Residential Camp

The Salvation Army sends local children to Camp SWONEKY which is located on a 200-acre site in Oregonia, OH just off of I-71 at exit 36.  It is approximately 35 miles north of Cincinnati, 40 miles south of Dayton, and 70 miles southwest of Columbus.  Camp SWONEKY offers swimming, boating, fishing, crafts, a 9 hole disc golf course, a nature center, a horse corral, hiking trails, music, crafts, basketball/volleyball courts, and baseball/softball fields, a campfire amphitheater, and Bible studies; with a focus on faith, fun, family, and friendship. 

Each year, Camp SWONEKY serves thousands of campers ages 7 to 12; each camp week runs 7 days.
