Our Doors Are Always Open Image

Our Doors Are Always Open

Only about 15% of the homeless population is comprised of "chronically homeless" individuals

You are not alone, The Salvation Army is here for you.

Sometimes life does not turn out how we planned. Our emergency housing options in Bethlehem can help. At The Salvation Army, we have an open door policy when it comes to those needing help with housing—whether they need a place to rest their head at night or assistance finding a way to stay in their own home.

Homelessness can happen to anyonesingle men, single women, entire families, the elderly, young adults, and even children. No one population is exempt. Any one of us could be a cancer diagnosis, financial crisis, or house fire away from needing aid. That's why our doors are always open, and we embrace all who walk through them. In 2019, there were about 567,715 homeless people living in the United States. While this number had been steadily decreasing since 2007, it has started to increase in the last two years. The Salvation Army offers permanent, supportive and transitional housing, as well as shelter programs to keep individuals and families safe off the streets.

Transitional Housing

When you need a place to stay during the “in-between” phase of securing housing, our transitional housing program offers referrals for local shelters. If you’ve been evicted, struggling with addiction, facing domestic violence, or a housing crisis, contact your local Salvation Army to find out what transitional housing options are available in your area. We offer referrals for temporary housing and support services to low-income individuals, young adults, and families.

Rent Assistance

When you simply cannot afford your next rent payment, we can help with referrals for rent assistance.

Utility Assistance

During a long, cold winter, your heat bill swells and you receive a notice from your energy provider that all utilities will be disconnected unless you can pay the overdue balance. Or, maybe a job loss forced you to choose between paying rent or paying your electric bill. You chose rent and just received an electric shut off notice. We can help.
