TWO SALVATION ARMY EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA LOCATIONS RECEIVE $35,000 FROM AETNA
A check presented by Aetna Better Health Kids will benefit The Salvation Army Summer Day Camp Programs in York and Chambersburg
YORK, Pa. (March. 20, 2024) —The Salvation Army in Eastern Pennsylvania received a $35,000 grant from Aetna Better Health Kids, a CVS Health company, to support its Summer Day Camp Programs in York and Chambersburg. The Salvation Army in York will receive $25,000, and The Salvation Army in Chambersburg will receive $10,000. The funds from Aetna will help pay for educational supplies, field trips, food and transportation.
The Salvation Army’s Summer Day Camp Program is designed to immerse campers in academic and fitness activities and field trips. It teaches children about responsibility and character development while exposing them to experiences that expand their understanding of our world, the arts and the resources available in York and Chambersburg.
Angela Kritzer, lead director of community development for Aetna, presented the check at The Salvation Army in York to Major Ronald Starnes, corps officer of the York Corps, and Majors Christopher and Ashley Mauk, corps officer of the Chambersburg Corps. Jennifer Brown, corporate engagement manager for The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division, was also present.
"The generosity of Aetna Better Health Kids enables us to uphold the essence of our Summer Day Camp Programs—empowering and nurturing young minds at a pivotal stage in their development. Amidst the challenges of rising costs, this contribution ensures that we can continue to offer an enriching, educational and accessible program for our community's children, especially those from low-income families," said Maj. Starnes. "It's more than just funding; it's a commitment to the growth and future of the youths in York and Chambersburg, helping us to sustain these vital programs without shifting the financial burden onto the families we serve."
The Salvation Army York Summer Day Camp runs for six weeks in the summer and serves children between the ages of six to 13. The Salvation Army Chambersburg Summer Day Camp is looking to expand beyond its one-week offering to a four to six-week program in the summer of 2024.
