The Salvation Army has changed lives and given hope to countless people throughout the nation. But it never does it alone.

From its inception, The Salvation Army in Buffalo has relied heavily on volunteers who support its programs. Often referred to as "the army behind The Army," volunteers play a crucial role in The Salvation Army's ability to provide quality social services for the entire community. 

Volunteers are valuable assets in The Salvation Army's efforts to meet the changing needs of our world. Through the skills and experience they bring to The Army, volunteers make significant contributions to society by positively impacting the lives of those they assist. Salvation Army volunteers change lives, uplift families and support communities throughout our nation everyday.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE SALVATION ARMY

 January 2023 - APRIL 2023

 

Buffalo Area Services (960 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14202)

Emergency Family AssistanceVolunteers are needed to work in our Food Pantry on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 – 4 p.m. Volunteer tasks include packing food bags, organizing and sorting food donations, stocking shelves, etc.

Employment Services - Volunteer fitness/dance instructors are needed to teach yoga, Pilates, Zumba and various dance classes like hip hop, modern, jazz, etc. This volunteer would help clients use movement and fitness to alleviate stress, negative body issues and trauma. This opportunity would be one to two times per week between 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. 

Emergency Shelter – A volunteer is needed once per week for clerical work in our Emergency Shelter. Volunteer duties include organizing, sorting, and copying files as well as sorting and organizing donations. Volunteer days and times are flexible.

Kids Night at the Emergency Shelter - Join our children in the Emergency Family Shelter for Kids Night on Friday nights from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Bring arts and crafts, board games, movies, or an activity to share with the group of kids currently staying with us.

Women’s Wednesdays at Youth Empowerment Program - Each Wednesday from 6-9 p.m., join us for Women's Wednesdays focusing on health, wellness, and fellowship for women of all ages. We are looking for Zumba teachers and Yoga and Self Defense Instructors to join us. Contact our Volunteer Coordinator for details!

Youth Empowerment Programs – Beginning in October, volunteers are needed for our After School program Monday thru Friday from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. Volunteers will help with homework, arts and crafts projects, sports/games, etc.  

Facility – Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. to help with upkeep - duties could include organizing, cleaning, painting, sweeping, outdoor work etc.

Mobile Food Pantry: On the first Tuesday of each month, volunteers are needed to assist with the Mobile Food Pantry from 2-3 p.m. Volunteer tasks include bagging groceries, loading vehicles, etc. This opportunity from January 2023 – October 2023.

 

Buffalo Kensington Corps (21 Westminster Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14215)

Food Pantry AssistanceEvery Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. volunteers are needed to help bag groceries, sort and organize donations, and help make follow up calls to clients.

Kensington Corps Youth Music and Arts Program - Every Wednesday and Thursday from 5-7 p.m. volunteers are needed to assist children with music and arts. We are currently looking for a volunteer piano teacher to join us for this program!

Community Dinner - Every Wednesday and Thursday evening from 3-5 p.m. volunteers are needed to help serve dinner to clients and neighborhood friends.

Food Bank Deliveries - On the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, 1-2 volunteers are needed to help with food bank deliveries. This volunteer opportunity involves lifting and being on your feet, so please wear comfortable shoes!

 

Buffalo Temple Corps (187 Grant Street, Buffalo, NY 14213)

Food Pantry Assistance – Volunteers are needed in our food pantry on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9-1 p.m. to pack food bags for clients, stock shelves, etc.

 

Tonawanda Corps (46 Broad Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150)

Food Pantry Assistance - Volunteers are needed Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and Saturdays from 9-11 a.m. to help sort donations, stock shelves, take inventory of donations, break down boxes, and pack food bags for clients. 

Facilities - Volunteers are needed to clean and sanitize our Tonawanda Corps. Volunteers would help in our Chapel, Dining Room, Nursery, and with other miscellaneous projects.

Music/Arts Program - Volunteers are needed to help with our Music and Art Program. We are looking for volunteer music and dance instructors.
