From its inception, The Salvation Army in Buffalo has relied heavily on volunteers who support its programs. Often referred to as "the army behind The Army," volunteers play a crucial role in The Salvation Army's ability to provide quality social services for the entire community.

Volunteers are valuable assets in The Salvation Army's efforts to meet the changing needs of our world. Through the skills and experience they bring to The Army, volunteers make significant contributions to society by positively impacting the lives of those they assist. Salvation Army volunteers change lives, uplift families and support communities throughout our nation everyday.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE SALVATION ARMY

September 2021 - January 2022

All volunteers must wear a face mask and maintain proper social distancing while volunteering.

Buffalo Area Services - 960 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14202

Employment Services – We are currently looking for a volunteer to help organize and sort materials and donations. This opportunity is available Monday thru Friday between 9-12 p.m. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator for details.

Emergency Shelter – 1 volunteer is needed to organize and sort storage areas and file cabinets. Volunteer shifts are flexible, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator for details.

Emergency Family Assistance – Volunteers are needed to work in our Food Pantry on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday’s from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Volunteer tasks include organizing and sorting food donations, stocking shelves, etc.

Facility Monday-Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm to help with upkeep - duties could include organizing, cleaning, painting, sweeping, outdoor work etc.

Youth Empowerment Programs - Monday thru Friday from 2-6 p.m. volunteers are needed for our After School program. Contact our Volunteer Coordinator for details.

Buffalo Kensington Corps (21 Westminster Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14215)

Kensington Corps Kids Club – Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:00-6:00pm volunteer in our after-school program. Our Kids Club helps children with their homework, music, arts, and discipleship programs.

Food Pantry – Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30 – 2:30 p.m. volunteers are needed to help bag groceries, stock cage with donations and help make follow up calls to our clients

Dinner service – Every Tuesday and Thursday night from 3-5pm. Volunteers can assist with dinner service to clients and neighborhood friends. 

 

Tonawanda Corps (46 Broad Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150)

Pantry Assistance – Volunteers needed to help with pantry organization Saturdays from 10 am-12:00pm

 

2021 Holiday Volunteer Opportunities 


BELLRINGING - Did you know that ringing a bell for 2 hours raises enough money to feed a family of four for an entire week? Talk about a feel-good experience! Bell ring for a minimum of 2 hours a day. Time and location are all your choice. All you need to bring with you is a friendly smile! 

 

TOY SHOPPE - December 16, 17 & 20 will be our annual Toy Shoppe. Volunteer 8:30am - 3:30 p.m.to help clients choose gifts to take home to their children. This experience will feel just as good as Christmas morning! 


SPONSORED FAMILIES - December 13 and December 14, volunteers are needed to help unload trucks filled with gifts for clients. December 15 and December 16, volunteers are needed to help families load gifts for their families. 

 

FOOD, CLOTHING OR TOY DRIVE - Gather your employees and volunteer together at your office! Start a food, clothing or toy drive to help support The Salvation Army. 


ANGEL TREE - Choose a gift from our Angel Tree to give to a child in need at Christmas time.
