The Salvation Army has changed lives and given hope to countless people throughout the nation. But it never does it alone.

From its inception, The Salvation Army in Buffalo has relied heavily on volunteers who support its programs. Often referred to as "the army behind The Army," volunteers play a crucial role in The Salvation Army's ability to provide quality social services for the entire community. 

Volunteers are valuable assets in The Salvation Army's efforts to meet the changing needs of our world. Through the skills and experience they bring to The Army, volunteers make significant contributions to society by positively impacting the lives of those they assist. Salvation Army volunteers change lives, uplift families and support communities throughout our nation everyday.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES 2024 

Buffalo Area Services (960 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14202)

Emergency Family Shelter

Shelter Inventory – A volunteer is needed once per week for clerical work in our Emergency Shelter. Volunteer duties include organizing, sorting, and copying files as well as sorting and organizing donations. Volunteer days and times are flexible.

Kids Time at the Emergency Shelter - Join the children in our Emergency Family Shelter for Kids Time on Friday evenings from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Bring arts and crafts, board games, a movie, or an activity to share with the kids currently staying with us. 

Youth Empowerment Programs

Volunteers are needed for our after-school program Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 5:30 pm

  • Mondays – After-school programming
    • Football training – 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
    • Basketball Training - 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
  • Tuesdays – After school programming 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm
    • Chess club 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm (Black Knights Chess Association)
    • Drill Team – 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm (beginners)
    • Drill Team – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm (Advanced)
    • Basketball Training - 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
  • Wednesdays - After school programming 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm
    • Music – 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm
    • Basketball Training - 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
  • Thursdays - After school programming 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm
    • Drill Team – 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm (beginners)
    • Drill Team – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm (Advanced)
    • Football training – 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
    • Basketball Training - 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
  • Fridays - After school programming 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm

Emergency Family Assistance:

Food Pantry Assistance – Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Volunteers are needed to help restock pantry shelves, sort and organize donations, unload pantry orders, and assist with pantry clients.

Employment Services

Mock Interviews -- Volunteers to conduct mock interviews, on weekdays between 9 am-2 pm. 

 

Buffalo Kensington Corps (21 Westminster Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14215)

Food Pantry Assistance – Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30 am - 2:30 pm Volunteers are needed to help restock pantry shelves, sort and organize donations, unload orders, and assist with pantry clients.

Cleaning – Every Friday from 10:00 am – 2:30 pm a volunteer is needed to clean and maintain the Kensington Corps property.

Music – Volunteers are needed to help engage the community with music lessons and coaching.

Food Bank Deliveries - On the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, 1-2 volunteers are needed to help with food bank deliveries. This volunteer opportunity involves lifting and being on your feet, so please wear comfortable shoes!

 

Buffalo Temple Corps (187 Grant Street, Buffalo, NY 14213)

Food Pantry Assistance – Volunteers are needed in our food pantry on Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 am - 1 pm to pack food bags for clients, stock shelves, etc.

Weekly Dinner – Volunteers are needed on Wednesdays to prepare and Thursdays to serve dinner to the community. Wednesdays from 12 pm – 4 pm for preparation and Thursdays 4 pm – 7 pm

Worship Service – The Temple Corps is seeking volunteers interested in performing worship music in Spanish during their Sunday 7 pm evening service.
