Who are we?
Springfield Avenue in Newark had historically been a main artery in and out of the City. Prior to the Newark riots, the street was home to many fine stores, restaurants, and businesses. However, following the riots, much of the Avenue was nothing but boarded-up buildings and vacant lots. The Salvation Army at that time had a small storefront outpost which provided weekly worship and youth activities for the local community children. As the needs of the community increased, so did our need for a larger, multi-purpose facility.
In the mid-'70s, The Salvation Army built a new Corps Community Center within a large vacant lot with a gym, worship center, classrooms, and recreational rooms. Senior citizens and youth of all ages sought refuge and security within the confines of the building. As times and needs have changed, so have the programs and services.

Prayer Service and Bible Study meetings are designed to be both spiritual and educational.
